Fare Categories

All passengers must pay Basic fare unless eligible for Discount fare or free fare.

Discount Fare

Requires certain forms of identification (ID) or age verification as follows:
Discount (senior, disabled or student) monthly or semi-monthly stickers must be affixed to a valid SacRT photo ID, with the exception of the student stickers, which may be attached to a school issued photo ID.

Proof of identification is required upon boarding and can include a SacRT Senior Card, a Senior photo ID card issued by another transit agency, a driver's license, a State of California ID card, a passport or identification issued by any governmental entity containing a photo of the cardholder and showing verification of age.

Proof of disability is required upon boarding and can include an RT Disabled photo ID card, a Disabled photo ID card issued by another transit agency, or a Medicare card (if presenting a Medicare card as proof of disability, a photo identification from a governmental entity with a name that matches the name on the Medicare card is required).

Attendants of persons with disabilities may ride for the Discount Fare only if they are riding with another passenger who has a valid SacRT Disabled photo ID card with an 'Attendant' eligibility notation.

(K-12) Must be pursuing a high school diploma; eligible to purchase SacRT monthly student stickers with a school issued photo ID or a SacRT Student photo ID card. SacRT Student stickers must be affixed to a school issued photo to ID card or a SacRT Student photo ID card. Students are eligible to purchase single fares and daily passes with their school ID.

Students who live or go to school within SacRT service boundaries are eligible for the RydeFreeRT program. Students in grades TK through 12 are eligible for free transit passes. Check with your school district for details or visit www.RydeFreeRT.com

SacRT Photo ID cards are only available at the SacRT Sales Center located at 1225 R Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.

Bus Passengers are required to pay a Basic or Discount single fare for each trip, or purchase a daily pass that is valid for unlimited rides on that day.
Light Rail Single ride tickets are valid for 90 minutes from time of validation on light rail only. Daily and monthly passes are valid for unlimited rides on buses and light rail for the date(s) or month shown.

Free Fare

Children
(Ages 5 and under)
Up to two children ride free when accompanied by an adult paying passenger. Student fares apply for additional children (or free for youth in the RydeFreeRT program).
SacRT Lifetime Pass Holders
(Ages 75 and over)
Passengers issued an SacRT Lifetime Pass prior to September 1, 2009 will receive unlimited free rides on SacRT buses and light rail. All other passengers age 62 and over, pay the Senior fare with valid proof of identification.Please note, e-tran and Placer County Transit accept the Lifetime pass.

Fare Payment

Cash
Cash Fares Accepted only on SacRT buses. Exact change is required since bus operators do not carry or give change.
Tickets
Basic Single Tickets: Bus Accepted on buses. Valid for one bus ride and cannot be used to board another bus or light rail.
Basic Single Tickets: Light Rail Must be purchased before boarding and are available from fare vending machines located at light rail stations. Valid for 90 minutes from time of validation. Pre-paid tickets must be validated (date and time stamped) by the fare vending machine before boarding light rail.
Passes
Monthly Passes/Stickers Valid for unlimited rides on SacRT buses and light rail for the month shown, and through the first business day of the following month.
Semi-Monthly Passes/Stickers Valid for unlimited rides on SacRT buses and light rail for the dates shown. Can be purchased for use from the first of the month through the 15th, or the 16th of the month through the end of the month.
Daily Passes Valid for unlimited rides until 1:30 A.M. the day after purchase or validation. Pre-paid passes must be validated before boarding light rail.
